Rocket Lab — Neutron Hungry Hippo Fairing Delivery Ideation / Strategy / DP / Editor

Some productions give you controlled environments and second takes. This wasn't one of them.

The delivery of Neutron's "Hungry Hippo" fairing to Rocket Lab's assembly and integration facility was a program milestone — the kind of moment that happens once, on its own schedule, with zero tolerance for missed shots. My job was to plan for every angle in advance and execute without a safety net.

I approached it as a multi-camera documentary problem. The fairing's scale and the nature of a live delivery event meant I had to think in coverage layers: wide establishing context, detail shots, and the kind of kinetic energy that only comes from the right tools in the right positions. I deployed GoPros, a drone for the aerial perspective that communicated both the fairing's physical scale and the significance of its arrival, and timelapse cameras to compress the full arc of the delivery sequence into a digestible visual beat.

The pre-production work was the real production. I mapped the delivery route and integration facility layout in advance, identified the critical compositional moments — the approach, the bridge crossing, the final position in the factory — and positioned each camera system to own a specific part of the story. When the moment came, there was no scrambling. Every shot had a purpose before the fairing moved an inch.

The final piece captures a genuine logistical milestone with the visual weight it deserved — unscripted, unrepeatable, and covered.
